Amid the stay in the reservation of seats in the local body polls for the OBC, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections can be postponed to nearly October, claimed sources.

On the issue of OBC reservation, the state government had already passed a resolution in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly that local body elections will not be held without OBC reservation.

This development reportedly comes after the Maharashtra Legislative unanimously cleared the amendment to the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and the Industrial Township Act. Other amendments were made in the Maharashtra Village Panchayats and Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis Act, alleged accounts.

BJP Leader Chandrakant Patil during the protest conducted by the BJP in Mumbai on Tuesday, March 9 while interacting with the media mentioned that the city's local body polls have been delayed by six months.

This has enabled the state government to demarcate wards for the civic elections, this power was previously utilized by the State Election Commission. Apart from this, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act was also amended.

Owing to this phenomenon an administrator will operate the affairs of the BMC. This move was reportedly explained by Shiv Sena's former corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar who will talking to our reporter mentioned, "The submission of OBC Imperial data will take time, along with this the government has made it clear that elections will not be held until the issue of OBC reservation is resolved. BMC elections can be postponed for at least 6 months."

(We tried contacting the BMC officials, however, they were unavailable for a comment)
