The Thackeray and Shinde factions have been locked in a tug of war over holding Dussehra rally at BKC and Dadar’s Shivaji Park.

In yet another setback to the Shiv Shiv chief Uddhav Thackeray, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has received a nod from MMRDA to hold the Dussehra rally at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) ground in Mumbai.

However, it has come to light that the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena is likely to treat the BKC Ground for the Dussehra rally as a backup venue, and continue to vie for permission to hold it at Shivaji Park.

According to the reports, MMRDA rejected Thackeray’s application for another plot in the same grounds saying it has already been booked for another event.

Therefore, the Uddhav camp is yet to get any plot for its rally as the BMC is yet to decide on the applications from both the factions for holding a rally at Dadar's Shivaji Park.

While rebel Sena MP Rahul Shewale had applied for permission for the Shinde group's rally at BKC, the Thackeray faction's application was given by MP Arvind Sawant.

Expressing his displeasure against MMRDA’s decision, Sawant exclaimed just like the MMRDA had used a first-come, first-served formula for giving permission to CM Eknath Shinde's faction at BKC, the same formula must be used by the BMC for giving permission to the Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray at Shivaji Park.

"...If you apply the same criteria, we should get permission to hold a Dussehra gathering at Shivaji Park," Sawant told reporters.

It is pertinent to note that this will be the first Dussehra rally of the Shiv Sena after the split in the party in June this year.
