The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said that the upper portion of the city centre mall is inaccessible and badly damaged due to the massive fire which broke out nearly a week ago and requires urgent repairs.
The fire at city centre mall in mumbai Central was doused after 56 hours. This can be called as one of the longest firefighting operations ever carried out in Mumbai. According to primary information, a mobile battery in a shop on the second floor of the mall had caught fire which eventually led to the entire floor being consumed by flames.
According to a report published in The Times of India, a structural auditor along with civic body officials examined the premises of the mall and suggested urgent repairs.
Since the upper portion has been damaged badly, the BMC officials have instructed to not use the terrace portion which is the podium of the adjoining 55-floor Orchid Tower. The authorities have asked the housing society in the tower to not use half the portion of their podium till the repair work at the mall is done.
The BMC will try to prove in the court that there was unauthorised construction at the city centre mall. The civic officials informed that they had served the owner a stop-work notice in 2019.
Meanwhile, two fire incidents were reported on Thursday in Mumbai - one in Powai and another in Andheri East. A fire broke out on the second floor of Trikutta Towers in Powai near Suncity complex which was doused by Mumbai Fire Brigade department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at 11:19 AM.
Another fire incident was reported at 12:19 PM on Thursday. The Mumbai Fire Brigade department of BMC reported the fire level at L1 and managed to douse the fire by 12:31 PM.
