Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Congress high command on Monday announced the removal of Sanjay Nirupam as Mumbai unit chief and appointed former Union Minister and party leader Milind Murli Deora for the same.

This happened after Nirupam was named to contest the Lok Sabha poll from Mumbai North-West constituency which will be held in the month of April this year.

Earlier, Deora had publicly criticised Nirupam for the condition of Congress in Mumbai while urging for the need of a strong party unit. Deora took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction against Sanjay Nirupam while hinting that he might not contest the Lok Sabha polls if the internal clashes are not fixed.

Several other senior leaders including Kripa Shankar Singh and the lobby of late Congress leader Gurudas Kamat had earlier complained that Nirupam indulges in “favouritism” and takes decision independently.
