The state of Maharashtra was one of the worst hit with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Several migrants working in Maharashtra returned back home to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other states, through harsh means as the transport services were not operational in the first COVID wave. However, Maharashtra Congress, during the first wave persuaded migrant workers in Mumbai to return to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar by giving them free train tickets. This move was slammed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who blamed this to be the reason for the widespread of COVID-19 in those states.

Reports state that the statement made by PM Modi was not taken well by Congress and the matters have become aggressive, due to which, the party has decided to stage a protest on Wednesday, February 9, 2021, under the 'Modi Maafi Maango' motive. Information regarding the same was shared by Congress State President Nana Patole recently.

Sharing more details he said, “A protest opposing PM Modi's statement is being organised by the Congress and considering the same, members from the Congress will gather outside several BJP offices in the state demanding PM Modi to apologize to the people and leaders from Maharashtra.

'Modi has insulted Maharashtra and the leaders of State BJP should realise this. The matter is serious and we believe those who support this statement made by Modi's will be looked upon as traitors to Maharashtra,” he added.

It is being said that leaders from Congress have taken the matters seriously and will take to the streets to express their displeasure. The motive of the agitation is to seek apology from PM Modi. A press conference will also be planned post the same at the Congress office in Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon.
