In the aftermath of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray's comments that the party had wasted 25 years by making an alliance with the BJP, opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis, on Monday, January 24 stated that it was late Bal Thackeray who had undertaken the decision to ally the party with another Hindutva party, reports stated.

According to reports, Fadnavis remarked that the decision to make an alliance between Shiv Sena and BJP was that of Bal Thackeray. Adding that those questioning this decision and highlighting their regret are insulting his decision on his birth anniversary.

Fadnavis lashed at Sena claiming that the latter's Hindutva was "on paper" and he believes one doesn't talk Hindutva, they live it. He added that the first corporator of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation was from the BJP and that Shiv Sena contested its first Assembly election on the BJP's symbol.

The former chief minister, based on accounts, elucidated that important decisions like the Ayodhya ram temple, Kashi Vishwanath temple and Article 370 of the constitution were undertaken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP leader added that the saffron flag has been hoisted when Modi became the prime minister.

He was of the opinion that the Shiv Sena was noncommittal on the abrogation of Article 370 and has not been able to resolve the issue of Mangalgad or rename Aurangabad as Dharashiv. Fadnavis claimed that Sena's popularity fell after it parted ways with the BJP.

He remarked that in the local body polls for nagar panchayat, Shiv Sena emerged fourth. He then went on to question the ruling party's conduct in Maharashtra. He claims that the MVA government has deployed a force of 25 police personnel against BJP workers.
