Former Congress MLA Abdul Sattar joins Shiv Sena

Abdul Sattar was expelled from Congress for indulging in ‘anti-party activities’ before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the speculations suggested that he might join BJP

Ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections scheduled in mid-October this year, Congress leader Abdul Sattar on Monday joined Shiv Sena in the presence of party chief Uddhav Thackeray. Sattar is a two-time former Congress MLA from Sillod assembly constituency in Aurangabad. 

After Sattar was removed from Congress on April 2019, there were speculations of him joining the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, Sattar was inducted in Shiv Sena on September 2. Sattar was expelled from Congress for indulging in ‘anti-party activities’. 

Sattar, who also served as Maharashtra Animal Husbandry minister in the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) government earlier, resigned from Congress before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and extended his support to BJP leader Raosaheb Danve, who won the LS polls from Jalana constituency.

In the upcoming assembly polls, Sattar might contest the elections from Sillod constituency. While inducting Abdul Sattar, Thackeray said that Sillod is an important seat for Sena to win.
