Known for its aggressive acts, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers on Friday evening assaulted hawkers outside Thane Railway Station. MNS justified their actions by saying that hawkers violated court’s order and set up their stalls on railway premises.

Earlier, after the stampede at Elphinstone Road station last year, the court had ordered hawkers to set up their stalls about 150 metres away from the railway station.

Talking to Mumbai Live, MNS Thane-Palghar District President Avinash Jadhav said that Bombay High Court had ordered that the stalls would be set up 150 metres away from the station but the same is not happening and it causes trouble to the passengers.

Jadhav further said that when the Municipal Corporation comes to monitor, the hawkers use station’s toilets as their godowns to hide their belongings which makes them non-functional for the passengers.

However, if all that the MNS district president says is true, the hawkers shall be prosecuted as per the law. MNS has no right to take the law into their hands and deliver justice through their hooliganism.
