Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) has fielded Baliram Jadhav as their candidate from Palghar Lok Sabha constituency to contest the poll which is scheduled on April 29. Earlier in 2009, the senior BVA leader was elected as an MP for the first time.

However, Jadhav was defeated by the late Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chintaman Vanga in the 2014 national elections. After the death of Vanga, Jadhav lost the Palghar seat in by-poll to BJP Rajendra Gavit with a few thousand votes. In the by-election, with BJP and Shiv Sena contesting separately, Jadhav only managed to get 2.22 lakh votes.

In 2009 parliamentary elections, Jadhav registered 2.23 lakh votes and won the LS poll by a margin of 12,360 votes while the late BJP leader Vanga registered 2.10 lakh votes. Contrary to his first win, Balram Jadhav was defeated by a huge margin of 2.39 lakh votes to BJP leader Chintaman Vanga.

Jadhav’s movable assets are listed to be worth ₹60.02 lakh and his wife’s movable assets are recorded worth ₹9.48 lakh. In the affidavit, Jadhav has claimed that his real estate assets are worth ₹1.4 crore while his wife possesses the same worth ₹29.96 lakh. Along with this, the senior BVA leader has several criminal cases registered against him.

Earlier in 2018 by-polls in Palghar constituency, BVA candidate Baliram Jadhav was defeated with a very low margin. However, with the support of Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance along with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Jadhav might get benefit in the LS poll against Shiv Sena candidate Rajendra Gavit.
