Shiv Sena candidate Rajendra Gavit will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha election which is scheduled on April 29 from Palghar constituency. Gavit recently joined Shiv Sena and left Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). With Shiv Sena and BJP alliance in shape in Maharashtra, Rajendra Gavit has been named to contest the LS poll.

The sitting MP Rajendra Gavit won from Palghar LS seat on BJP tickets in the by-election which happened in the year 2018. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came and campaigned for Gavit. The by-poll was held after the demise of BJP MP Chintaman Vanga who won in the year 2014.

Won by more than 20 thousand votes

In 2018 by-election, Gavit won by more than 20 thousand votes and defeated Shiv Sena candidate Srinivas Vanga, the son of late BJP leader Chintaman Vanga.

However, before joining BJP, Gavit was about to contest 2014 general election on Congress ticket but the party backed the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) candidate at the last moment.

Assets

Before 2014, Gavit was given the responsibility of Tribal Development minister in Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress alliance government. As per the affidavit filed by Gavit in the year 2018, his assets were registered for worth ₹8.66 crore while in 2016, the assets were listed worth ₹6.53 crore.

In public opinion, Rajendra Gavit has minimised his importance by switching parties. Gavit recently joined Shiv Sena after quitting BJP. As this happened, Gavit may have to face heat from the discontent BJP workers and the Vanga family. Gavit had earlier won the 2018 by-poll election but this time the fight is tough between BVA candidate and newly joined Shiv Sena leader.
