In his Independence Day speech on Thursday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced ₹6812 crore for the victims of floods in the Western part of Maharashtra. The floods have drastically affected districts like Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara.

While addressing the audience CM Devendra Fadnavis said, 

I promise I will rehabilitate the victims in record time and promise to bring back the joy in their lives. I congratulate all agencies and their personnel, who successfully rescued over 5,00,000 distressed citizens, despite the challenges they experienced. ₹3000 crore was deposited to the farmers’ accounts under various sche­mes. 

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Coast Guards, Army, Navy and Air Force personnel have been deployed to rescue the people in these flood-affected areas. The various schemes mentioned by CM Devendra Fadnavis include Jalyukt Shivar which has played a major role during a severe drought in the Marathwada region.  

He further thanked Mumbaikars and Ganpati mandals as they have donated generously for the CM relief fund. Notably, CM Fadnavis had previously announced that he along with Maharashtra Cabinet Ministers will be donating their 1 month's salary towards the CM relief funds.
