Maharashtra cabinet minister and CM’s son Aaditya Thackeray had invited people to witness the Christmas light show at Bandra Reclamation on Sunday, December 26.

Thackeray had sent out an open invitation on Twitter. “Presenting Bandra Wonderland! Do visit Bandra Reclamation and enjoy the festivities, safely! Heartfelt thanks to @reliancejio and MSRDC for their support of this initiative,” he tweeted.

Due to this, lakhs of people gathered after 9 pm, barring the Section 144 imposed in the city, which does not allow assembling of more than five people at a place. This came days after the Maharashtra government imposed night curfew from 9 pm to 6 am.

Reports stated that there was a massive traffic jam, as people had parked their vehicles on the road. Several people were not allowed to enter the garden to witness the light show and were turned away as already more than 2-3 lakh people had gathered there, said visitors.

Meanwhile, the organiser of the light show, said, the show was shut down at 8.45 pm. There was overcrowding as it was weekend. Private security guards and also our Yuva Sena workers were deployed to control the crowds. Moreover, all COVID-19 protocols were followed and no rules were violated.

On Friday, December 24, the BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal also announced strict guidelines, including a ban on the gathering of over five people between 9 pm to 6 am.
