Election Commission is likely to announce the dates of assembly elections for three states including Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand soon. According to sources, the poll dates for Maharashtra and Haryana will be announced first.

State Election Commission (SEC) had informed that the dates of the poll in Maharashtra will be announced after Ganesh Chaturthi. However, the speculations suggest that the same can be declared by the end of this week.

Earlier in 2014, the Maharashtra assembly elections were held on October 15 and the poll dates were announced on September 20.  Maharashtra BJP President Chandrakant Patil had earlier informed that this year also the elections will be held in mid-October.

After coming into power in 2014, the Devendra Fadnavis government conducted its first cabinet meeting in November. The State Election Commission is supposed to hold elections in the state before the current term expires.

The model code of conduct will be implemented across Maharashtra after the SEC announces poll dates. This will restrict the state government from taking any new decision.
