Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday that over the next five years, various infrastructure projects aimed at improving Mumbai’s transport system will be completed, and that the BJP will offer 40% of its candidacies to young candidates in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was speaking at the 'Youth Connect' program organised by India's International Movement to United Nations (IIMUN) at the National Sports Club of India in Worli. Fadnavis said that in the next five years, radical developmental reforms will be implemented in Mumbai and many important projects will be completed on a war footing, which will give impetus to Mumbai's east-west and north-south connectivity. The extension of the Worli-Bandra Sea Link to Versova-Dahisar-Bhayander, the new link road from Dahisar, and the Thane-Borivali tunnel projects will greatly reduce traffic congestion in Mumbai.

As 60 percent of Mumbai's traffic currently travels on the Western Expressway, emphasis has been placed on coastal and sea bridges to provide alternatives to this area. The average speed of travel in the city will increase significantly due to the metro and other infrastructure projects. Mumbai will be completely tunneled. The entire metro network will be built in the next five years. After the completion of this project, public transport in Mumbai will become more efficient and easier to use. CM Fadnavis mentioned that the integrated mobility app 'Mumbai One' is a one-stop solution for citizens.

The picture emerged that the number of government and municipal schools was decreasing as parents became more interested in private schools. However, in reality, the situation is changing. The BMC has the resolve to take municipal schools to international standards, and the civic body has that capability. He also expressed the view that if government schools are provided with proper training, teaching methods, and infrastructure, they will be better than private schools. For many years, Mumbai's sewage was discharged directly into the sea. It is not right for a metropolis like Mumbai to discharge 100 percent of its sewage into the sea. Therefore, we are now setting up sewage treatment plants all over Mumbai by making rules. By next year, only 100 percent treated water will be released into the sea. He also said that 30 percent of the area will be completely reserved in the redevelopment of Dharavi, which will create a huge amount of open space.

Youth participation is essential to make democracy more empowered and inclusive. In today's democracy, young citizens are not just spectators but important stakeholders with their own voices. The democratic process cannot move forward without giving space to the voices of the youth. The BJP is also encouraging youth to come forward in politics, and CM Fadnavis said that 40 percent of the candidates in the upcoming BMC elections will be under the age of 35.
