She claimed that in several places, voter names appear more than twice, which can significantly affect the results of corporation elections where victories are often decided by small margins. She demanded that the Election Commission clarify who is responsible for such duplication. Gaikwad added that the Congress Party is prepared to fight against this issue.
Opposition parties have demanded the removal of all duplicate names before the elections. The State Election Commission (SEC) is currently announcing dates for local body polls. Many municipalities, municipal councils, district councils, and nagar panchayats are under administrative rule due to delays caused first by COVID-19 and then by reservation-related issues. The Supreme Court has ordered that elections must be conducted before 31 January 2026.
The electoral battle for Nagar Panchayats and Nagar Parishads has begun.
The voter list as of 31 October 2025 will be considered.
1.07 crore voters will cast their votes.
13,355 polling stations will be set up.
Voting will take place through EVM machines.
A new mobile app will help voters find their polling station and check their names in the list.
The State Election Commission has instructed all local bodies to identify duplicate names and ensure no voter casts a vote twice. A special verification campaign is being carried out at every booth. Although the SEC cannot directly delete duplicate names from one location, it has ordered authorities to verify and ensure that voters listed twice are allowed to vote only at one designated place, preventing double voting.
