In a brutal defeat for the Congress, the party in Maharashtra managed to win on only one Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 general elections. As this happened, state Congress President Ashok Chavan took the moral responsibility for the same. 

The Maharashtra Congress President has offered to resign from his position amid the 2019 Lok Sabha election results. Chavan also asserted that all the state presidents should offer to resign. 

Rahul Gandhi is not solely responsible for the loss in Lok Sabha election 2019. Every state chief should present their resignation letters to the party president,” Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan said while speaking to the media.

According to reports, Congress President Rahul Gandhi offered his resignation on Saturday before the party’s working committee. However, the party unanimously rejected the same.

Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan lost the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Nanded parliamentary constituency by a margin of more than 40,000 votes. Chavan was contesting against Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) leader Prataprao Chikhalikar.
