More than 1.5 lakh candidates from Maharashtra were employed during the lockdown through the government job fair

As per reports, jobs were offered in the entire one year period from January to December 2020, a total of 1.67 lakh unemployed candidates were hired during the lockdown period from March 2020, until the end of the year.

The Skill Development Department under the Maharashtra State Government has played an important role in 2020, by providing employment to over 1.99 lakh people in the state. As per reports, jobs were offered in the entire one year period from January to December 2020. Information regarding the same was shared by Minister of this department Nawab Malik.

He further added that out of the 1.99 lakh jobs, a total of 1.67 lakh unemployed candidates were hired during the lockdown period from March 2020, until the end of December. Furthermore, the department arranged employments of 34,763 people in the month of December alone.

Giving more information in this regard, Nawab Malik said that in order to solve the problem of unemployment during the Coronavirus pandemic, officials from the Department of Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship has organized online job fairs across various districts of Maharashtra whereby various initiatives were implemented through the Mahasvayam Web Portal.

The web portal for the same (https://rojgar.mahaswayam.gov.in) was launched to offer opportunities to the unemployed candidates and entrepreneurs. One was asked to register on this web portal by sharing information about their education, skills, experience etc. Companies, entrepreneurs, corporates looking for skilled candidates were also asked to register on this web portal thereby find the skilled candidates they want to choose.

This process led to coordinating between the candidates and the firms and was managed easily through this web portal. In December 2020, a total of 89,328 job seekers registered or re-registered with the department, out of which 34,763 candidates got jobs. Of these, 902 were from Mumbai division, 14920 from Nashik division, 6826 from Pune division, 8145 from Aurangabad division, 3928 from Amravati division and 42 from Nagpur division.

Officials claim this to be a great success, whereby the online Maharojgar Mela was held from 12th to 20th December 2020 across all the districts of the state.

A total of 497 industries from different parts of the state opened 86,435 vacancies which were filled through this fair. Over 1.60 lakh unemployed candidates applied for these posts, and 5281 candidates have got jobs in various companies so far. The recruitment process for the remaining vacancies is underway, informed Nawab Malik.

This employment program will continue in the future as well, for which, job seekers can register on the web portal with mobile number, email id and Aadhar number. Previously registered candidates should update their information. Meanwhile, private and public sector entrepreneurs, corporates looking for skilled candidates should also register on the portal with necessary information.

Online interviews are being conducted through WhatsApp, Skype, Zoom etc., and efforts are being made by the department to provide employment to all the candidates who have applied, added Nawab Malik.
