In a recently taken decision, the state government of Maharashtra has approved a fund INR 23 crore which will be used towards the conservation, beautification and tourism planning of Shivneri Fort. The historic monument is located in Pune district's Junnar, which marks the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Sharing more information in this regard, Maharashtra State Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray said that the work of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has and will always inspire the whole world. Therefore, the Government of Maharashtra has taken initiative to preserve, conserve and develop the forts, thereby develop opportunities for tourism in the state.

As a part of this, the Shivneri Fort will be preserved, conserved, and beautified. Besides this, officials will consider developing opportunities for tourism, all of this has been given an administrative sanction of INR 23 crore. He further added that with the utilisation of the funds, the department will work towards increasing the significance of Shivneri fort.

The government is also planning various developmental works which will be done by the Archaeological Department, Forest Department and Public Works Department. These mainly include the revival of Amberkhana, Rajwada and adjoining areas, improvement of pathways, the revival of rock-cut caves, facilities for tourists, direction and guide signs, improvement of the gardens, improvement of Shivneri circumambulation route, improvement of the road leading to Varasubai temple to Padmavati temple, improvement of Tejewadi road, eco-tourism works at Shivsankul, etc.

Officials also state that in the near future, all the forts in the state of Maharashtra will be developed for tourism keeping in view their historical significance. Through this, extensive work will be planned by the tourism department which will attract tourists and enthusiasts from home and abroad, said Minister Aaditya Thackeray.
