Maharashtra Governor donates ₹1 lakh for treatment of postal staff affected by COVID-19

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Tuesday made a personal donation of ₹1 lakh to Maharashtra Posts department for the treatment of postal staff affected by the coronavirus infection. The money will be spent to treat those who have contracted COVID-19 while discharging their duty. 

The Governor handed over a cheque of worth ₹1 lakh to Harish Chandra Agarwal, the Chief Post Master General of Maharashtra, at Raj Bhavan. The cheque has been addressed to ‘Maharashtra Postal Circle Welfare Fund’. On this occasion, Assistant Post Master Shrinivas Vyavahare was also present. 

The personal donation made by the Governor also includes the prize money of ₹25,000. Koshyari received the sum of ₹25,000 for winning the first prize in letter writing competition on the theme - ‘Bapu, aap amar hai’ (Bapu, you are immortal). 

The letter writing competition in Hindi was organised by Maharashtra and Goa circle of the department of posts, on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. 

The competition - ‘Dhai Akhar’ - was held in November 2019 in Inland letter and envelope category. More than 80,000 participants had taken part in the competition which has organised to promote the culture of letter writing in the age of technology. 

Governor Koshyari added ₹75,000 from his personal account and donated a sum of ₹1 lakh to the department of posts in Maharashtra. 

Earlier, while inaugurating the HSNC Cluster University via video conferencing, the governor had asked the students should acquire the knowledge of ‘adhyatmik intelligence’ which is the core heritage of Indian culture. 

While stating the world is moving towards artificial intelligence, Governor Koshyari called upon students to also acquire the knowledge of ‘spiritual intelligence’.
