Another minister in Maharashtra has tested positive for the coronavirus. Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on Tuesday informed that she has tested positive for COVID-19 but is currently doing well. She has appealed those who came in her contact to follow protocol.
“During the course of my check-up today, I have tested positive for the coronavirus. I am at present doing well with the blessings and good wishes of all. I request everyone who has come in my contact to be careful and follow protocol. Stay safe. Take care. (sic),” Gaikwad tweeted.

Gaikwad, senior Congress leader, is member of the legislative assembly representing the Dharavi Assembly constituency in Mumbai. She is the third minister in the Uddhav Thackeray cabinet to test positive for the coronavirus within a week.
Till now, 13 cabinet ministers in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government have tested positive for the coronavirus and nine have recovered from it. Recently, Maharashtra Minister of State (MoS) for Water Resources and Education, Bacchu Kadu was tested positive for the coronavirus.
State Energy Minister Nitin Raut and Rural Development Minister Hasan Mushrif have also tested corona positive.
Earlier, Jitendra Awhad, Ashok Chavan, Dhananjay Munde, Aslam Shaikh, Balasaheb Patil, Sanjay Bansode, Sunil Kedar, Abdul Sattar and Vishwajit Kadam from the Uddhav Thackeray cabinet have tested positive for the coronavirus.
As of September 21, the coronavirus cases in Maharashtra have risen to 12,24,380 and the death toll has touched 33,015. The active cases in the state remain 2,74,623 while almost 9,16,348 people have recovered from COVID-19. On Monday, Maharashtra reported 15,738 coronavirus cases and 344 fatalities in 24 hours.
