The Maratha community carried out more than 50 silent protests across Maharashtra demanding for the reservation in jobs and education, yet the state government did not act on it, believed protestors who became violent resulting in vandalising buses and torching police vans.

We were hurt when Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that Maratha community will cause riots in Pandharpur’s wari. We want him to apologise for failing to meet the demands and give justice to our community,” Virendra Pawar, coordinator of Maratha Kranti Morcha told Mumbai Live.

Pawar complained that their silent protest was taken into consideration on a national level but the state government did not bother. Hence, the protests became violent. He added that the reservation issue is pending in Bombay High Court (HC) and the state government is not taking any efforts to expedite the case.

Pawar further added that the state government announced the mega recruitment for 72,000 posts without finding any solution over the reservation issue.

We are opposing this mega recruitment drive because the CM gave us false assurance of reserving 16 per cent seats for our Maratha community. The CM said that after HC gives their verdict on pending reservation issue, candidates from our community would be able to apply, but, in reality, as per the law, the state cannot reserve such seats. Hence, the CM should suspend the mega recruitment drive,” said Pawar.
