In view of rising coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, MNS president Raj Thackeray has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for assistance.

The MNS chief has penned a letter to PM Modi and urged him to assist Maharashtra by ramping up vaccination in the state, which is worst hit by the pandemic.

In his letter, Raj Thackeray has pushed for '100 per cent vaccination in the state'. Moreover, his request also includes vaccination across all age groups.

To achieve this goal, Raj Thackeray has said that Maharashtra needs the support of the Center to provide the required number of vaccines, especially in a short period of time.

“The first wave of the pandemic and the lockdown caused severe damage to the people of Maharashtra. We are still experiencing its economic and social repercussions across the country. Maharashtra cannot afford to impose repeated restrictions and lockdowns to stop the spread. These are not permanent solutions. What's the alternative?” Thackeray mentioned.

Demands made by Raj Thackeray to the Central Government

  • The state of Maharashtra should be allowed to purchase vaccines separately
  • Private institutions in the state should also be able to purchase vaccines
  • Serum Institute of India (SII) should be allowed to sell the vaccine in Maharashtra but with proper regulation
  • In order to ensure timely supply of vaccines, other institutions like Haffkine Bio-Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited and Hindustan Antibiotics in Maharashtra should be allowed to produce vaccines
  • The state should be allowed to take necessary steps to ensure that it has adequate reserves and essential medicines required to treat COVID-19 disease, e.g. Remdisivir, oxygen
