Determined to win 45 Lok Sabha seats and more than 200 seats in the Legislative Assembly, the BJP has appointed election chiefs for all the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies in the state. State president Chandrashekhar Bawankule clarified on Thursday that although the BJP has appointed an election chief in the constituencies controlled by the Shiv Sena's Shinde group, they will also work for the Shiv Sena.
BJP has appointed election chiefs in all 48 Lok Sabha and 288 Legislative Assembly constituencies. The list of their names has been announced. Bawankule said in a press conference that though election chiefs have been appointed in constituencies where there are MPs or MLAs of Shiv Sena's Shinde faction, as BJP and Shiv Sena will fight the upcoming elections in alliance, these chiefs will also help Shiv Sena candidates. Srikanth Bharatiya, Keshav Upadhyay and others were present on this occasion.
Still a fighting chance
In some constituencies there may be controversy among the aspirants. Even after being appointed as election chief, the same can also seek nomination from the party. The party also clarified that the appointment of the election chief means that the way to contest the election is not closed.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' private secretary Sumit Wankhede has been included in the list of heads of Lok Sabha constituencies. Although Wankhede is preparing to contest the assembly, the sitting BJP MLA has already started opposing Wankhede. Although former mayor Muralidhar Mohol from Pune is interested, he has been appointed as the head of the Pune constituency. Anup Dhotre, the son of the current MP of Akola Constituency, Sanjay Dhotre, has been appointed as the Constituency Chief.
For Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Thane Lok Sabha constituency, senior leader Vinay Sahastrabuddhe and Dr. Shashikant Kamble was appointed for the Kalyan constituency represented by Srikant Shinde. BJP MLA Niranjan Davkhare has been appointed as election chief in Chief Minister Shinde's Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency for the Legislative Assembly. Pragnesh Prabhughate has been given an opportunity in the fort of Dombivli.
Candidates who lost in the last assembly elections have been given priority while appointing the chief for the assembly. Praveen Darekar, who is an MLA of Shinde group, has been entrusted with the responsibility of Magathane. It is predicted that there will be a dispute between the two parties over this constituency. Pankaja Munde was defeated from Parli constituency last time. Pankaja's sister MP Pritam Munde has been appointed as the head of this constituency.
