Narayan Rane’s comment on “slapping” Uddhav Thackeray, the Maharashtra Chief Minister has sparked an outrage amongst the Shiv Sena workers, cite reports. In Pune, an FIR has been lodged against Rane, after the youth wing of Shiv Sena, Yuva Sena, registered a complaint about using offensive language for the CM.

Rane is said to have made that comment for he believes that the CM was unaware of India’s year of independence.

After this scandalous comment, there are growing speculations that Rane may be arrested, with some accounts stating that a Nashik police team is going to Chiplun in Konkan where he is believed to be located.

On Monday, during the Jan Ashirwad Yatra, Rane was quoted saying that he thinks it’s disgraceful that the Chief Minister was unaware of the country’s year of independence. Rane said that during the Independence Day speech, Thackeray leaned to ask his team, the number of years since independence. He added that if he was present there, he would have given him a tight slap, stated reports.

In the backdrop of these comments, Shiv Sena’s party workers have lashed out and are agitating with many banners being places across the city, calling Rane a chicken thief as a referral to the poultry shop he operated years ago.

Shiv Sena’s MP Vinayak Raut was reported by the Times of India to have said that in order to appease the BJP, Rane is passing such comments and states that Rane has lost his mental balance after being inducted into the ministry. He thinks Rane should be ousted from his post.

In Mumbai, outside Rane’s home, activists from Shiv Sena and BJP were seen clashing by chanting slogans, pelting stones, with some reports mentioning a lathi-charge by the police to remove the crowd.
