Amid the 'false news reports' doing the rounds, Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI) on Friday clarified that the organisation has not merged with Shiv Sena and the news is “baseless and false”.
Earlier, a report published by Hindustan Times on August 26 suggested that FSUI which is an organisation affiliated with Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) was merged with Shiv Sena in the presence of Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray and party MP Arvind Sawant.
While addressing a press conference at Marathi Patrakar Parishad, FSUI General Secretary Manoj Yadav asserted that people including Naresh Birwadkar have joined Shiv Sena due to their personal interest, claiming that they do not represent FSUI in any manner.
Birwadkar was removed from FSUI in 2012 due on corruption charges and a seafarer’s gratuity scam. The legal proceeding regarding the same is underway in courts and the CBI is investigating the same,” FSUI General Secretary Manoj Yadav informed.
Yadav further claimed that due to Birwadkar’s alleged involvement in the various scams, he is trying to “take shelter” with the ruling party. In a joint statement carried out by the concerned organisations, it has been stated the records flashed by Birwadkar and his group have no credentials with support to their declaration.
FSUI is affiliated with CITU and Water Transport and Water Transport of India (WTWTI) at the national level and on the international level, the organisation has been recognised by International Transport Federation (ITF) based in London.

Refuting Birwadkar’s claim of being FSUI’s general secretary, ITF has slapped Birwadkar with a legal notice stating that he was removed from his post on November 22, 2012. Furthermore, the legal notice mentions that Birwadkar’s group to “stop and desist” from using ITF’s logo in their letterhead and website.
