According to latest reports, the law and order situation in Maharashtra's Amravati is under control as the district observed a peaceful bandh for the past 24 hours.

However, Section 144 of CrPC will continue and curfew will remain in place for the next 2 days, that is till Friday, November 19. Though, curfew has been relaxed between 2 pm to 4 pm for citizens to do their work.

The district authorities have also suspended the internet services to prevent the spread of rumours which can fuel violence during a shutdown to protest incidents in Tripura late last month, officials said. It would not be restored until further notice.

A day after the 4-day curfew was imposed in Amravati, on Sunday, November 14, it expanded to include four more towns in the district after local BJP leaders staged a protest during a bandh.

Meanwhile, a total of 60 people were arrested by the police in connection with back to back incidents of stone-pelting that took place in Amravati city on Friday, November 12, and Saturday, November 13.

Former Maharashtra minister and senior BJP leader Dr Anil Bonde, Amravati mayor Chetan Gawande, BJP district chief Nivedita Choudhury and leader Alim Patel were arrested for the violence that broke out on Saturday and later released on bail.

On Saturday, November 13, following a bandh call by the local party unit, hundreds of BJP workers had gathered at the busy Rajkamal Chowk and other key areas to register their anger against the violence that had taken place a day earlier during a protest march by some groups after reports of a mosque in Tripura been vandalised emerged.

Several areas of Amravati city were marked by mob violence on Saturday after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called for a bandh to protest against another violent bandh that was organised by some Muslim organisations on Friday against the vandalism of a mosque in Tripura.
