Operation Lotus will not succeed in Maharashtra: NCP chief Sharad Pawar

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar in an interview with ‘Saamana’ has expressed confidence that the ‘Operation Lotus’ will not be a success in Maharashtra. This comes amid the reports of the political stir in Rajasthan as Sachin Pilot parts ways with Ashok Gehlot creating two camps.

Pawar is the first non-Sena leader to appear in a marathon interview series in ‘Saamana’ which is Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece. The interview was taken by Shiv Sena leader and Executive Editor of ‘Saamana’.

The NCP chief expressed confidence that the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government will complete its full five-year term. He also said that if everything goes smoothly, they will contest the next elections together.

It has been nearly eight months since the Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena alliance came to power in Maharashtra and has already faced several internal clashes. Earlier, Congress had expressed displeasure over being sidelined in the decision-making process in Maharashtra.

However, Pawar ruled out the speculation of any difference among the MVA allies saying that there was not even an iota of truth in the reports claiming the same. He went on to say that the three-party alliance will contest the upcoming elections together.

There are threats to the MVA government in Maharashtra with speculations that the government may get toppled in October this year as the BJP may initiate 'Operation Lotus' in the state amid reports of the political stir in Rajasthan.

Pawar, however, expressed confidence that the same won’t succeed in Maharashtra and said that ‘Operation Lotus’ was an exercise to weaken the democratically elected government and will not succeed in Maharashtra.

Earlier, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis had claimed that Pawar was part of the discussion to form a government last year but backed out at last minute to join hands with Congress and Shiv Sena.

The former Union Minister dismissed the claims and said that the BJP had approached NCP to form government several times but the offer was rejected clearly by his party.
