Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has requested Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar to join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Republican Party of India (RPI) to form the government in Maharashtra. The RPI chief said that Pawar should join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

This comes after Pawar’s exclusive interview with ‘Saamana’ came out. In a first, a non-Sena leader gave a marathon interview to Shiv Sena leader and Executive Editor of the Marathi daily Sanjay Raut. Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray have been among those interviewed.

Pawar, who is the chief architect of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra, played an important role in tying up Congress and Shiv Sena to form the government after 2019 state assembly polls.

However, Athawale said that NCP’s ties with Shiv Sena and Congress were not beneficial to it and suggested that Pawar should take the decision to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a video message, the RPI chief said that Pawar should think about joining the NDA if he wants the country to develop.

“If Pawar Saheb wants the country’s development, he should make a decision to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The decision to join hands with Shiv Sena and Congress was not providing benefit to the NCP. The NCP chief should think about joining the NDA,” Athawale said.

He further added that the RPI, BJP, and NCP can form an alliance in Maharashtra and the centre would also provide more funds to the state for its development.

In his interview with ‘Saamana’, Pawar revealed his conversation with PM Modi last year. The NCP chief went to Delhi to meet PM Modi last year at his chambers in the Parliament and told him that his party will not join hands with BJP but will remain in the opposition if it doesn’t form a government with Sena.
