On Tuesday, June 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the contributions of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj while speaking at the inauguration of "Kranti Gatha". This is a newly created Gallery of Indian Revolutionaries in the British-era bunker at Mumbai's Raj Bhavan, reported news agency PTI.
Modi was quoted elaborating on how "Swaraj", and the lives of the aforementioned leaders strengthen patriotism even today in every Indian. He then spoke about the work undertaken by other revered personalities who had roots in Maharashtra such as Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Babasaheb Ambedkar and dwelled on the contributions they made.
He believes that the state has inspired India in considerable ways such as through social revolutions. He added that the state has a rich history of social reformers and saints such as Dnyaneshwar, Namdev, Samarth Ramdas and Chokhmela who have contributed to the country.
According to the report, Modi also inaugurated the "Jal Bhushan" which is the newly reconstructed residence and office of the Governor of Maharashtra. In addition to this, he released a special postal stamp that commemorated 200 years of one of the city's most iconic newspapers, Mumbai Samachar.
Based on accounts, he elucidated that the paper gave a voice to the country's freedom movement and appreciated its 200-year journey. He uttered that the paper did not lose its local connection even when Bombay was renamed Mumbai.
The Indian Prime Minister was seen alongside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and other leaders. This is significant because the state and centre have been at a tussle over the last few years across considerable issues.
