Mumbai Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Nawab Malik on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have to resign amid the ongoing debate over remarks made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anant Kumar Hegde.

Hegde, a BJP MP from Karnataka, sparked outrage stating that the swearing-in of Devendra Fadnavis as CM for such short period was “drama” to protect funds for development work worth ₹40,000 crores from being misused.

Hegde was addressing a rally in Yallapor of Uttara Kannada constituency when he said that the BJP had “staged a drama” to save funds from the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi and it only took Fadnavis “15 hours” to make sure that the money was returned to the centre.

Reacting to this, Malik said that it was not possible to return a huge amount of ₹40,000 crores to centre and the same was being spread to hide the defeat of BJP in Maharashtra.

...however, if it has been done, it is a gross injustice to Maharashtra. This will have serious consequences and will result in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation. The flames of this will spread all over the country, Nawab Malik asserted.

Meanwhile, Devendra Fadnavis has denied the allegations made by BJP MP Anant Kumar Hegde. Reacting to Hegde’s remarks, Fadnavis said that he took no major policy decision apart from granting aid worth ₹5,380 crores to farmers.
