Political mudslinging has begun between the ruling and opposition parties after Mumbai was flooded in the first rain. Heavy rains in Mumbai on Monday led to waterlogging in many places, disrupting the transport system. The ruling party has accused the Shiv Sena Thackeray faction and the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government of being responsible for the waterlogging in Mumbai. Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray responded to the allegations by criticising the government.

Cabinet meeting over rains

Projects undertaken to prevent waterlogging in Mumbai during the monsoon have been going on for years, who is responsible for it, and why did these projects get delayed? It is understood that BJP ministers made this request in the cabinet meeting and demanded a white paper on the administration of the municipality.

In the cabinet meeting, Ashish Shelar raised the issue of Mumbai's plight. 'The government is being accused of Monday's incident. However, this responsibility lies with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The 'Brimstowad' project, which cost thousands of crores of rupees to ensure timely drainage of water during the monsoon season in the city, is still not completed. The silting work in the Mithi River is also incomplete and there has been a major scam in the silting work. An investigation is underway and no action has been taken against the accused yet. During the Mahavikas Aghadi government, many projects in the city were put on hold, resulting in work being stalled.”

Overall, Shelar is understood to have blamed the Shiv Sena and Maha Vikas Aghadi government, which have been in power in the municipality for years, for Monday's incident. He also demanded that the municipality's white paper be issued for this.

Meanwhile, many people lose their lives due to falling tree branches during the monsoon. To prevent such accidents, the BMC should waive the fee for cutting tree branches in private land. So that people will cut the tree branches themselves. Also, the work of installing protective nets for dangerous landslides in landslide-prone areas is done by MHADA and the Public Works Department. However, it is understood that Minister Shelar demanded in the meeting that the BMC should provide funds for this.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has demanded compensation for Mumbaikars, criticizing 'Bhrushtnath' Shinde and the BMC for the corruption that has been going on for two-three years.

The rains arrived in the state 15 days earlier than expected this year. On Monday, 200 millimeters of rain fell in south Mumbai in an hour, causing waterlogging in the city. Also, eight people have died in the state due to heavy rains and the relatives of the deceased will be given an assistance of four lakhs each.
