Raj Thackeray, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president has asked the party workers to commence preparations for the upcoming municipal corporation polls independently without contemplating any possible alliances.

On Wednesday, February 2, Thackeray undertook a marathon meeting at Bandra’s MIG Club along with his office bearers as well as workers to curate a strategy for the BMC elections, as well as local body polls in Thane, Nashik, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

According to reports, Sandeep Deshpande, MNS Spokesperson interacted with the media wherein he elaborated on how Thackeray has asked all party workers to commence poll preparation independently. Thackeray reportedly added that while the issue of the alliance must be on the party worker’s mind, they will think about it later. Thus, they have been asked to commence preparation to contest polls alone and be content by themselves.

Deshpande further added that a committee will be set up, pre-poll meetings will be held and the procedure for shortlisting candidates was also discussed.

On the other hand, BJP state leaders have been non-committal on a pre-poll alliance with the MNS. While the MNS had won seven seats in the 2017 BMC elections, six corporators defected to the Shiv Sena, leaving MNS with just one corporator in the BMC.
