In a development that has drawn attention in Maharashtra’s political circles, Priya Phuke, sister-in-law of BJP MLA Parinay Phuke, joined the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) in Mumbai.
The induction took place in the city in the presence of senior party leaders, highlighting Mumbai’s role as a key centre for major political developments in the state.
Soon after joining, Phuke was appointed as the Nagpur City Women’s President, marking her formal entry into mainstream politics. Party leaders expressed confidence that her inclusion would strengthen the organisation, particularly in the Vidarbha region.
Phuke had previously contested elections as an independent candidate. She has also remained in the spotlight due to a family dispute in which she had levelled allegations against Parinay Phuke and his family.
Speaking after joining the party, she said she was inspired by Sharad Pawar’s leadership and would work towards women’s empowerment and addressing their issues.
Her entry into the NCP-SP is expected to have political implications, especially in Nagpur, while the induction event in Mumbai underscores the city’s continued importance in shaping state-level political moves.
