On Tuesday, Shiv Sena candidate Kalaben Delkar, won the by-election to the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha seat with a seamless margin of 51,269 votes, stated EC officials highlighted accounts.

Kalaben Delkar who is 50 years old is the wife of former MP Mohan Delkar who death resulted in the bypoll. She attained 1,18,035 votes, whilst her closest competitor, Mahesh Gavit from the BJP received 66,766 votes, elucidated accounts.

Aaditya Thackeray, the state cabinet minister also took to Twitter to congratulate the party on their win.

On the other hand, Mahesh Dhodhi, the candidate from Congress came in third with 6,150 votes. Whilst the Congress and Shiv Sena are allies in Maharashtra as part of the MVA government, it is interesting to note that they fought the bypoll separately.

Additionally, the voting in the Scheduled Tribe reserved parliamentary seat occurred on October 30 for which the counting was undertaken on the morning of Tuesday. The counting of votes was undertaken in Silvassa city of Dadra and Nagar Haveli district. It is part of the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, as well as, Daman and Diu.

As mentioned earlier, the by-election had to be undertaken since the sitting MP Mohan Delkar, passed away, who won as an independent in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He defeated the then sitting BJP MP Natubhai Patel by 9,001 votes.

During his political career, Mohan Delkar had been with the Congress and BJP and is allegedly believed to have hung himself in a hotel in Mumbai in February 2021.
