After the success of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the recently held elections in the teacher-graduate constituency of the Legislative Council, a tussle between the ruling party and the opposition, i.e. Shiv Sena and BJP has started. Members from the political circles have been talking about how a newly formed party has defeated the established.

Talking about the same on a show recently, Shiv Sena leader and state Transport Minister Anil Parab said that today's result of the Legislative Council was like a race between the 'rickshaw and the bullet train.' We lost the seat allotted to Shiv Sena in Amravati, but this seat has been won by independent candidates for the last several years. Therefore, BJP should introspect rather than comment on our status currently, because they have lost two seats, Pune and Nagpur, which they won earlier for many years.

The Shiv Sena, the NCP and the Congress, the constituent parties of the Mahavikas Aghadi, had jointly contested the elections while allocating seats in the teachers' and graduate constituencies of the Legislative Council. Out of these, Congress and NCP got two seats each and Shiv Sena got only one seat in Amravati. But Shiv Sena has been able to win this seat too. The BJP candidate was also eliminated from the second round for winning the seat.

Therefore, only Dhule-Nandurbar seat of the local body has been won by the BJP. Party candidate Amrish Patel has won in this constituency.

In the Aurangabad graduate constituency, NCP candidate Satish Chavan and Pune candidate Arun Lad marked their victory and report states that MVA candidates won the prestigious graduate constituencies of Nagpur and Pune. However, BJP is facing defeat in Pune constituency after 20 years, whereas Independent candidate has won in Amravati constituency.

Some have stated that this result of the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections is a victory for the Maha Vikas Aghadi. Sharing his thought, Sharad Pawar has stated that this success has been achieved only because the government has worked together. "This decision was not a surprise to us as the BJP has a large lead in the Dhule-Nandurbar constituency. But on the strength of the work done by the MVA government during the last year also got the seat it never got in the Pune and Nagpur constituencies. Observing this result, it is clear that even the common people have accepted the current government and this is a sign that the status in Maharashtra has changed.
