Shiv Sena on Monday lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil over his criticism against Maharashtra Congress President Balasaheb Thorat.

In an editorial published in ‘Saamana’, Shiv Sena said that Patil’s criticism for Thorat is out of desperation for not being in power. Shiv Sena said that the former Congress minister was criticising Thorat because despite joining BJP ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections last year for power, he had to remain in the opposition.

Patil took a jibe at the Congress leadership in Maharashtra saying that he has never seen such a helpless state unit chief. The senior BJP leader said that Thorat was responsible for Congress’ poor state in Maharashtra. Congress is in power but the party and its ministers are neglected in the decision-making process, Patil added.

However, Thorat reverted saying that he has seen Patil bow before former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on multiple occasion. He further said that Patil should stop worrying about the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government as the alliance is strong.

Patil quit Congress after 2019 Lok Sabha elections and was inducted as a cabinet minister in the Devendra Fadnavis government as he joined the BJP. He was the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly before he quit from his post.

Shiv Sena further said that Patil should stay away from making such remarks as those who live in a house of glass should not throw stones at others. The editorial added that there should be a code of conduct in politics for calling others ‘helpless’.

“One can’t help but feel amused when leaders like Patil label Thorat as helpless,” it said while accusing Patil of not being loyal to any party he joined. “He enjoyed power being in Sena but quit it to join Congress. He left Congress while being the leader of the opposition,” Shiv Sena pointed out.

The Sena further took a jibe at the BJP saying that the saffron party has ruined its own image as the turncoats have joined its ranks.
