After waiting for several months, Maharashtra government announced the expansion of its cabinet. Currently, the state’s cabinet consists of 25 cabinet ministers and 16 Minister of State (MoS).

According to sources, the date announced for expansion is October 13. Shiv Sena, in alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has five cabinet ministers and seven MoS while one post is still vacant for Shiv Sena.

Ahead of Maharashtra Assembly and Lok Sabha elections next year, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' government probably has only this chance to expand the cabinet. Fadnavis went to Delhi to further discuss the same with party leaders.  The upcoming polls can be held in the month of April or May next year.

Fadnavis on Tuesday called a special meeting of the state council of ministers. During Fadnavis’ tenure as Maharashtra CM, the state cabinet has expanded three times.
