In a recently taken decision, the state government of Maharashtra, led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, has decided to rename all the state-run college hostels as 'Matoshree' government hostels. The decision was taken under the Ministry of Higher and Technical Education, basis which a Government Resolution (GR) was also released.
This move has created a stir among the political circles, as the decision was taken by CM, a Shiv Sena leader, in guidance with another Shiv Sena leader and Minister Uday Samant who heads the education department.
Report published in the TOI states that the CM has decided to rename all the unnamed government hostels which are now being identified based on the gender, as Matoshree hostels. Moreover, this name will also be used for all the upcoming hostels at the government colleges in Maharashtra.
The decision was taken keeping the emotional sentiment in mind, whereby the GR stated that the hostels provide mother-like care and environment to the students residing there.
