After carrying out a milk blockade strike for four days, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) finally called off their protest after Maharashtra government agreed to farmer union’s demands. The state announced that post-July 21, 2018, the dairy farmers would get 25 per litre as the minimum rate of milk.   

SSS leader Raju Shetti who led the protest had demanded a hike of 5 per litre in procurement prices. The impact of the protest was felt particularly in Mumbai and Pune where milk supplies were partially affected.

On Thursday, Dairy Development Minister Mahadev Jankar announced in the Legislative Assembly that the government has decided to give ₹25 per litre for milk to dairy farmers with effect from July 21. In a meeting, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, NCP leader Ajit Pawar, leaders and representatives of the milk suppliers federation were present.

I had a discussion with the CM and I am happy with his decision. He is ready to give ₹25 per litre to dairy farmers. We are calling off our milk blockade strike,” Raju Shetti, SSS Chief.
