The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has offered multiple awards to NGOs and housing societies of the city while also conferring G-South (Worli) with the award for the cleanest ward. This also happens to be Shiv Sena youth leader Aditya Thackeray’s constituency, with Thackeray present at the ceremony.

BMC held this event at Worli as part of a special awareness programme. The authorities further encouraged housing societies to incorporate modern composting technologies that are currently available in the market, while also presenting awards to schools and hospitals for maintaining cleanliness.

During the course of the event, BMC officials mentioned that it has collected 82,000 Kgs of plastic over the past 17 months and has reportedly hired a contractor to undertake recycling.

Frangipani Cooperative Housing Society was adjudged the cleanest among housing societies while Witty International School and P D Hinduja Hospital were awarded the cleanest school and hospital awards. Meanwhile, Pratha Samajik Sanstha and IES Harne Guruji Vidyalaya won awards for the cleanest community toilet and school respectively. The winners received cheques of Rs 1.5 lakh each.

Further, BMC encouraged all schools, NGOs, and housing societies to take part in the Swachh Survekshan 2020. A move like this will no doubt encourage more people to take up cleanliness initiatives in their own backyards.
