The Maharashtra Assembly sessions are scheduled to begin from September 7, 2020, and ahead of the event, Speaker Nana Patole has confirmed that he has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19). The Speaker took to Twitter to share the news with a message that said that he was experiencing symptoms of the infection and upon getting tested, his results showed positive for COVID-19.

As per reports, the upcoming assembly sessions were the shortest-ever monsoon sessions scheduled in the history of the Maharashtra Legislature and were expected to take place amidst the coronavirus pandemic. They have been postponed twice after being scheduled in June and August 2020.

Officials from the government have confirmed that safety measures will be taken during the two-day sessions, where members will have to undergo mandatory antigen tests and have the coronavirus kits at all times. Social distancing will be maintained throughout the sessions, where besides the regular areas, seating arrangements have been made for legislators in visitors and students gallery.

Designated areas have been made for drivers and personal assistants as precautionary steps. Furthermore, in the absence of Speaker Patole, Assembly Deputy Speaker and NCP MLA Narhari Zhirwal will chair the proceedings.

Besides him, state minister and senior Congress leader Sunil Kedar also tested positive for the virus on Friday, September 4, 2020.
