Another political controversy uproar erupted when Jaidev Thackeray, the elder brother of Uddhav Thackeray, on Wednesday evening, October 5, shared the stage with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during Dussehra rally at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai.

Moreover, it has come to light that along with Jaidev, his estranged wife Smita was also present at the rally site along with Nihar, the son of late Bindumadhav Thackeray, Uddhav Thackeray's eldest brother.

In addition, what comes as another major blow to Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, it is pertinent to note that Champa Singh Thapa, a trusted aide of Thackeray who served the Sena founder for 27 years, was also present at the event.

Talking to reporters, Smita Thackeray said she was invited to the rally by Shinde, who heads the rebel faction of the Shiv Sena.

Jaidev Thackeray, son of Bal Thackeray, said to share an uneasy relationship with his younger brother Uddhav Thackeray. The Uddhav Thackeray-led faction has organised its own Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai.

Both Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray claim their faction is the "real" Shiv Sena. Shinde's rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray's leadership had led to the collapse to the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in June.

What exactly led to a dispute between Balasaheb Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray with Jaidev Thackeray? Let's find out.

Balasaheb Thackeray, known for his penetrating speeches in public life, was very affectionate with children in his private life. Balasaheb has three children. Elder Bindu Madhav (died in an accident in 1996), Jaidev Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray.

He tried to maintain a good relationship with both of his children. But bitterness remained with Jaidev Thackeray. Balasaheb passed away in 2012 but his relationship with Jaidev for nearly two decades before that was never cordial. Balasaheb Thackeray was so fed up with Jaidev that he once wrote in Saamana – that this boy is a tragedy.

Why was there bitterness between father and son?

Relations between Balasaheb and Jaidev were strained from the early 1990s. Jaidev was first married to Jayashree Kalelkar. It is said that he was not happy in that marriage. Due to this, there was tension in the family. At the same time Jaidev took a big step and divorced her. This separation further widened the rift between Balasaheb and Jaidev.

Later, he got married again to Smita Thackeray. But Jaydev decided to part ways with Smita within a few years. Balasaheb did not like his decision either. Bal Thackeray's wife Meena died in 1995 and the strain on the father-son relationship increased. Jaydev stopped coming home. Jaydev has also got married for the third time. The third wife's name is Anuradha.

Uddhav vs Jaidev over property

A dispute broke out between him and Uddhav over Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray's wealth.

As he did not give anything to Jaidev Thackeray from his will after he passed away in 2012. But, he left a portion of the property to daughter-in-law Smita and grandson Aishwarya. This shocked Jaidev.

Soon Jaidev Thackeray expressed doubts about the content of Balasaheb Thackeray's will.

Jaydev had alleged that Bal Thackeray's mental condition was not good at the time of his death. He also went to family court against this. He had also accused Uddhav Thackeray in the court.

After that, the dispute went to the Bombay High Court. In this case, Jaidev Thackeray withdrew the claim stating that he did not want to take the case further. So, Uddhav Thackeray got all the ownership of Balasaheb Thackeray's property.
