Mumbai – 12 lakh voters could not cast their vote due to the redevelopment of the societies. Maharashtra Societies Welfare Association has sent out the list of voters whose name did not come on the list.

Six months back, the state government had issued a circular to society members to verify if their names in the voter list. But there was no awareness for the same and many society members found their names missing.  “Then we got another circular stating that it is mandatory for societies to conduct a meeting and to nominate a volunteer who will help others during the voting period. But we got this circular 10 days prior to voting and many voters did not get to cast their vote,” said Ramesh Prabhu, President, Maharashtra Societies Welfare Association.

Meanwhile, when the association tried speaking to Arif Mohammed, the Joint Registrar of cooperative societies, he denied speaking on it.

“Henceforth, along with the annual audit, societies should also send the voters list which will contain the names of the society members. This will help during the elections,” said Prabhu.
