The Rotary Club of Bombay Airport has undertaken a noble cause to provide free surgeries for 140 children suffering from Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, presented the “Gift of Life” certificate to the children who underwent successful surgery.

Congenital heart defects are one of the most common birth defects in India, affecting approximately 1% of all newborns in the country each year. If left untreated, these conditions can cause serious health complications or death in severe cases. Early diagnosis is key to preventing long-term consequences. However, lack of awareness and insufficient resources have hindered timely diagnosis and treatment for many children.

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who has been working closely with the association, said, "I am committed to raising awareness about congenital heart defects and ensuring that all should have access to quality care. People living in rural areas often have limited resources available for healthcare needs compared to those living in urban environments.”

Dr Snehal Kulkarni- Mentor- Pediatric Cardiology- Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospitals saidCongenital Heart Disease (CHD) is a condition that affects many children around the world. It is a type of heart disease that is present at birth, and it can cause serious health complications if left untreated. Children with CHD often require specialized medical care and treatment to manage their symptoms and prevent further complications. Some common symptoms of CHD in children include difficulty breathing, poor growth, fatigue, and an irregular heartbeat. With the right medical care and support from their families, children with CHD can lead happy and healthy lives despite their condition. It is important for parents to be aware of the signs and symptoms of CHD in children so they can seek help as soon as possible.”
