Neurodiversity can lead to many difficulties which have a lasting impact on one’s physical, mental and emotional health. Children with neurodiversity viz with autism, downs syndrome, genetic disorders, cerebral palsy and many other developmental disorders require early intervention. To help children with developmental delays, the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Airport has put its best foot forward by starting a new unit of Sushiksha Intervention Center.
“SuShiksha Intervention Center” is a well-established Clinic which is already present in Mulund and Manpada.
Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Airport inaugurated a new therapy center in Andheri, Mumbai which will consist of various training resources along with clinical services for children with developmental delays. The objective is to enable the child with developmental delays to optimize the ability to conduct activity for daily living with minimal or no support. The chief guest of the event was Mita Seth, District Chairman Inner Wheel, District 314.
Neelima Mashru, President of Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Airport And said, “We work for children diagnosed with global developmental delays, Autism spectrum disorder, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, language or communication challenges, and other Developmental delays. We have an interdisciplinary team of educators, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, autism intervention therapists, and communication specialists working together to bring out the best in the children with neurodiversity. Our individualized child-centric program focuses on the specific needs and interests of the child. The program is designed in collaboration with the entire interdisciplinary team and co-working with parents to add meaning and direction to the lives of the children who visit us, through specific and customized intervention programs. We believe in providing both children and their parents an opportunity to gain experience in communication, cognitive, social, and life skills and optimize their potential and confidence. We hope to take more such initiatives for the development of every child across the country.”
Various programs offered at Sushiksha Intervention Center:
· The physiotherapy and occupational program focus on posture, alignment, and gross motor milestones while Occupational therapy focuses on sensory processing issues, ADL skills, fine motor skills, and prewriting skills. The team together formulates the necessary changes in the environment which may be needed to enhance functional outcomes for the child.
· Language and communication programs help with receptive and expressive language development, developing basic foundations of communication and vocabulary, opportunities for spontaneous communication, and using alternative modes of communication like PECS, Avaz, and visuals, to help children develop communication skills Reinforce, Appreciate & Celebrate!
The Autism Intervention Program is designed to create opportunities for individuals to learn from the environment involving families and peers Skills focused on joint engagement, critical thinking, and problem solving, ability to think for themselves and work independently.
Early intervention program (EIP) caters to Children with an early diagnosis of developmental delay (motor milestones or social communication), children with traumatic birth history, and a prolonged stay in the NICU.
Oral Placement Therapy is an advanced technique that utilizes a combination of auditory stimulation, visual stimulation, and tactile stimulation to the mouth to improve speech clarity. Children who will benefit from it are picky eaters, difficulties with lip closure, issues with chewing, and children with sensory challenges and articulation issues.
OPEN BASIC EDUCATION (OBE) program; an alternative program, equivalent to elementary education with three levels. The team offers guidance for registration, availing of study material, and provides coaching to the students and trains them in writing exams by conducting regular tests and practice papers.
Sushiksha Conducted online sessions successfully Pan India and Internationally since 2018. Parents are provided goal sheets and are trained to use the available material at home to perform the intervention and therapy tasks in the best manner with therapists’ supervision.
Home programs are provided to parents who are unable to avail of the supervised services. These are made based on the current goals and skill levels of the child keeping in mind their family goals.
PEG with KIDS- Parental engagement and guidance program with Kids with objective to involve the child in daily family routines and ways to engage and bond with their children at home.
Structured Schooling Program @Thane recognizes the strengths and uniqueness of our children and provides a model program with structured teaching, Functional communication and Academics and collaborating with peers and other adults.
Sushiksha Outreach program involves multiple training workshops viz Parent training, Teacher training, Prewriting skill training, Toilet training and independent skill training.
