On Sunday, January 16, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) suspended its marriage registration services, attributing it to the COVID-19 pandemic, reports stated. 

The civic body took to Twitter to make this announcement. By means of the tweet, the BMC elaborated on the Health Department has temporarily suspended the Marriage Registration services owing to the present coronavirus situation in the island city. 

The civic body further remarked that the service will soon be operational with an appointment date and time facilities. Now, the BMC is considering the possibility of offering the said service by means of the Video KYC option. 

Since the past few years, based on accounts, a considerable number of civic services and facilities of the civic body were bring undertaken online. It has been reported that for comprehensive information about marriage registrations, citizens should get in touch with their respective ward officials. 

Recently, the BMC launched its WhatsApp Chatbot that includes a variety of services. To get started, citizens need to send a "Hi" to 8999228999. More than 80 facilities can be accessed by the citizens utilizing the WhatsApp chatbot that include the likes of a water bill, house rent, essential municipal services, electricity bill payment, filing a civic grievance, booking a vaccination slot, marriage certificate and shop license, amongst others.
