Mumbai has lost 60 per cent of its green cover in the last 40 years. The city’s tree cover, which was more than 35 per cent in the 1970s, is less than 13 per cent today.

According to Manoj Deshmukh, Head of Department of Civil Engineering, MHSSP, the drive expects to touch the initial cover mark again.

We need to expand the vegetation cover up to 60-70 per cent in order to curb climatic imbalances in nature,” he said.
