On Monday, March 7, Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad announced that schools in the state will be undertaking a week-long appreciation of women between March 8-12.

The schools will be tied up with NGOs, educationists, and corporates to mark International Women’s Day, which is celebrated on March 8.

On this occasion, the state education minister Varsha Gaikwad announced the key events that will be taking place during this time.

Taking it to Twitter, Gaikwad said: “Women are nurturers and creators. What better way to celebrate them this International Women’s Day than to collaborate with NGOs, educationists & corporates to enrich the lives of girls and children in Maharashtra. I’m glad to announce these key tie-ups to mark the day."

According to an order issued by the government, in the backdrop of the COVID-19, these activities will be conducted by maintaining social distancing and strictly adhering to all necessary hygiene instructions as given by the Central and State Governments from time to time.

The program, which has been organized online at the state level through the State Council of Educational Research and Training, was inaugurated by the School Education Minister. On day 1, activities for girl child empowerment in the 'Jagar Janiwancha' program was launched.

The lecture of Shruti Tambe of Savitribai Phule Pune University will be organized on March 9 in the context of women empowerment and changing perspective of society.

On March 10, 'Ghe Bharari' - Murud's Administrative Officer Deepali Diwekar will provide guidance on new career opportunities by giving information about financial resources. Meanwhile, on March 11 Divya Chavan will guiding children.

On March 12, there will be an interview with Vinay Nimbalkar and Mahesh Nimbalkar of Snehgram Sanstha, who have contributed in the social and educational field under the program 'Majhi Sakhi, Manjhi Sahchari'.

Similarly, lectures, speech competitions, experience sharing, counselling, discussion sessions, expressions on women empowerment along with films/videos based on women empowerment will be organized in the district at district, taluka and school level.

International Women's Day is celebrated in the state to involve everyone in building an egalitarian society and to inspire them to work in this direction. However, in India, Savitribai Phule opened the doors of knowledge, showed new horizons to millions of women and ushered in a new dawn.
