A major hub for all things jewellery and accessories, located at Bhuleshwar in South Mumbai, just north of Crawford Market, Zaveri Bazaar happens to be an iconic jewellery shop that sells gems and jewels, notably Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri, Dwarkadas Chandumal, Dhirajlal Bhimji Zaveri and UTZ.

Moreover, according to reports, 65 per cent of all gold trading and dealing in India is estimated to originate from the market. The Bazaar is also famous for photo frames, clips, tea-sets, dinnerware, toys and other luxury lifestyle articles.

Last year, when the outbreak of the coronavirus hit the state of Maharashtra, Mumbai's famous Zaveri Bazaar started distributing sanitisers in order to safeguard the citizens.

On the other hand, in recent developments, the All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) had earlier urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to permit the opening of jewellery retail stores in the state during the festive occasion of Gudi Padwa, which is an important day for buying wedding jewellery for the people in the state.

In a letter written to the CM on Wednesday, GJC said Gudi Padwa is one of the most important festivals for Maharashtra, and every year, the jewellery business witnesses a 30-40 per cent spike in sales. However, in view of the spike in cases of coronavirus, the state government has urged the citizens to celebrate Gudi Padwa in a low-key manner, similar to all other festivals since the outbreak of the pandemic.
