Striker Arya Gandharva was in the best scoring form and struck five goals as Goans Sports Association, Mumbai made a bright winning start recording a commanding 7-0 win against Rabbani Academy, Nagpur in a Group-A league match of the 1st WIFA State Youth Championship, which is being organized as part of the FIFA-AIFF State Development Project, and played at the Cooperage ground on Friday. Arya’s teammates Raul Almeida and Jaiden Irani netted one each to complete Goans victory.
Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) also started with a win defeating J.J. Academy also from Mumbai by a close 1-0 margin in Group-B. Joel Barnes scored the only goal in the second half.
In other well-contested encounters, Kolhapur’s Kandoba Talim Mandal blanked All India Youth Football Academy, Pune 2-0 in Group-A and Mathew FA, Pune rallied to overcome Deccan Rovers FC, Pune 3-1 in Group-B.
16 clubs from Mumbai, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Pune, Nasik and Solapur will be participating in the 1st WIFA State Youth Championship, which is being organized as part of the FIFA-AIFF State Development Project. The matches will be played at the Cooperage ground, from the tournament will be held from April 21 to May 1, 2017.
